Mommy Kisses Make It Better <3

How many of you can honestly say that "kissing a boo-boo" makes it better?
If it helped to ease the pain, you had better believe that I'd lay a few good kisses on my ouchies. Sure, this seems silly, and realistically, we as parents know this isn't true; but it is for my daughter.
There's just something about Mommy's kisses that make her feel better. You'll find as your child develops, he/she will constantly need to be reassured. Recently, my daughter was playing outside with her cousins and had few good falls. As you can see from the picture, she ended up with a "nose full" of bumps, bruises, scrapes, and scratches. She cried, and she cried...and she cried. But a good ole mommy smooch made her feel loads better.
Children don't understand that a situation will get better or that the pain will go away. They need physical representation to show that everything will be alright, and what better way to accomplish this than to land a "big wet one" on the place it hurts most. By performing this task, you are also establishing trust with your child. She will know that Mommy/Daddy will be there to take care of her.
Whenever my daughter acquires a new boo-boo, it's second nature for her to hold it up (if she is able) and have Mommy give it a great big kiss. This shows me that she knows that I will be there to take care of her. Yeah, this may seem to silly to you, but it means the world to your child. Don't be afraid to kiss your kiddos ouchies; it makes more of difference than you think.
